The Utah Student 25 awards program recognizes the top student-founded businesses in Utah, encouraging growth and interaction with Utah’s renowned entrepreneurial community. The program helps winners better publicize their achievement, while encouraging economic growth and job creation in the state.
Nationally, the Inc. 500 list has become one of the venerable institutions in entrepreneurship. Its importance to the field of entrepreneurship is significant as an example of excellence and a guide to new startup ventures. Locally, programs like vSpring Capital’s v|100 list, the UVEF Top 25 Under 5, to mention a couple, have successfully recognized entrepreneurs and venture ecosystem players in Utah. The mere act of compiling and ranking these lists spurs economic activity, fosters networking, and provides bona fide standards against which to measure.
Great entrepreneurs build Utah’s economy. Utah institutions of higher education do a lot to create this entrepreneurial culture in the state. There are some great business plan competitions at individual Universities. Utah Student 25 is the first statewide competition that recognizes successful business execution while attending school. Students who accept challenges of going to school and running a business deserve to be recognized and welcomed with open arms into the entrepreneurial community. That is what the Utah Student 25 hopes to accomplish; recognize them and put them on the fast track to entrepreneurial success in Utah.
